Giving a Maid of Honor Toast

A maid of honor toast can be slightly different than a maid of honor speech.  A maid of honor speech is typically where you start out thanking the parents, congratulate the bride and groom, tell a story, and congratulate the bride and groom again.  A maid of honor toast is going to be a bit different.

For a maid of honor toast, you aren’t going to need to start out by thanking the parents.  Because the point is to give a toast, you want to make sure you are focusing on the bride and groom.  Especially making statements about how happy you are for the two of them is always a fantastic idea.  Telling a story can be a good idea, but it is typically not required as it would be in a maid of honor speech.

For a toast, make sure that you have the glass of wine or champagne in your hand before you stand up to give the toast.  You’ll want to make sure that everyone in the audience recognizes that you are giving a toast.  Also, you’ll want to end your toast with “Here’s to the bride and groom,” “Cheers!” or “Here Here!”

As long as you keep your toast focused on the bride and groom, everything should go well.  Don’t hesitate to throw in something you saw in the wedding.  Pre-planning is a great idea, but being spontaneous with something that shook you emotionally during the wedding can give your toast a very personal touch.  Finally, make sure that your toast is just a couple minutes.  You will be standing up to toast to the bride and groom not give their entire life story.  If you stick to these couple of tips, your maid of honor toast should go just fine.
